 Hello from Carol,

Who would have thought it would take me this long to write another post. Life is so good and everybody is doing fine!

My babies came one by one, but the grandchildren are coming two by two. This is Louise's 5th and Rachel's 1st. They are both due the end of November.

sisters-

Daryl is kept busy with the windmill business. Here are some before and photo of some of his handiwork. Phil is the grease that keeps the gears running in the business. He does most of the climbing and fixing at the top of the windmills.

Daryl and I celebrated our 30th anniversary this year and instead of the usual cruise, we updated our cycle. We've put on over 10,000 miles in the 3 months since we've bought it. These Fall weekends find us out on the road with our biker buddies.

We took a few camping trips this summer with the family. This lake was crystal clear and the boys enjoyed the fishing. They could watch the fish come up and nibble on their worms.

A Day in the Life of Carol....

I was thinking I would try to give you all a peek into our lives lately. Grace and Phil have these great digital cameras now, so we have quite a array of pictures too. That makes the updates more fun.

Daryl and Phil are quite busy with windmills. The demolition part of the business is completely done, and we are busy with windmills full-time. They do quite a bit of travel, sometimes servicing mills in Minnesota, Nebraska, and other surrounding states.

I have been doing quite a bit of landscaping again this spring. I enjoy being outside so much, and it seems like such a waste to be inside while the sun is shining!  I also enjoy making new flower beds and arranging shrubs. I finally have the time to play around with some of these things now that my little ones are growing up!

We are quite excited to hear that Rachel is expecting in November!!  She sends me frequent updates on the size of her tummy, LOL! And it's so fun to see her experiencing this new phase of life. We are also tickled to have Chuck back in the area. He had an amazing time in Honduras, and got back around a month ago full of stories about God's power and miracles! He  has plunged into work again, and has a goal of returning to Honduras maybe in a year or so, Lord-willing. Roland is still very much enjoying Africa and the Bible college, but the pull of home is also pretty strong on him. He has plans to come home for a visit in July, and may be here for about 6-8 weeks. During that time Pastor Michael Howard (one of Roland's teachers) will be on tour in the U.S. preaching, and we plan to have him speak here in Kalona. We are greatly anticipating what God will have for us through him.

May all of you have a blessed summer! Seek after the heart of the Father... there is no greater joy!

Family Christmas

The months have slipped by, and I often think of updating my xanga site, but never actually get to it! So much has happened over the past weeks and months.... I'll see if I can catch up a little.

In August my 4 girls and I enjoyed a trip to New Jersey to the beach! We really wanted to spend some time together before Audrey's wedding. We laughed so much, and it was a great time of catching up with each other's lives. All of my girls are so special!

Audrey has found the love of her life and was married to Peter Graber in September. She met him while helping a friend move from NC. They were married in DuPont National Forest, beside a gorgeous waterfall. The day was just perfect. They now live in NC. When she calls me up she often says, “Oh mom, I’m soooo happy”.

Jason & Louise added to the family too this fall. Jenna Grace was born on October 30. She is such a pretty baby, and we can hardly get enough of her. I'm sure glad we live as close as we do!

All of the family was home for Christmas this year. I just love having them all around me again!! We enjoyed our time together so much. We went ice skating one day, had a girls' shopping day, and a lot of singing and playing instruments. We also had a very sweet prayer time/send-off for Roland. He left 4 days after Christmas and flew to Malawi, Africa. He plans to be there for 2 years, attending a Bible college. We will miss him so much!

I still work at the Sale Barn in Kalona. The work is slowing down some for the winter, after a very busy, hectic fall season. I have also applied for a bus-driving job. We'll see how that turns out. I used to drive school bus quite a bit back in PA.

Well, I guess that about wraps it up for this time.

Hello from Carol!

Yes, I am still alive, and no, I have not forgotton how to post on xanga.  It is just not always easy for me to get to since we don't have a computer, and the time at the library is always too short. We are enjoying the Iowa summer very much after a very long, cool, wet spring. There are a lot of hard storms going through, but my garden is looking pretty good in spite of it all. We are enjoying cherry tomatoes, and lots more soon to come.

My work at the Kalona sale barn during the horse sales recently expanded to a part-time job. I had been trained to enter each horse #, the seller, the buyer, and the price it sold for into the computer as they run the horses through the ring, lickety-split! I had several days of splitting headaches and wanting to pull my hair out, but I am getting the hang of it, and it's enjoyable. But now the sale barn hired me as accountant in the office as well. I work Mon., Wed., and Thurs. I don't know how long I'll be doing it, but I am sure learning a lot!

Last week Pete & Audrey came out for a visit. Oh, how great to finally meet Pete, and to see the two of them together after all we have heard of this wonderful man!  We all camped at Louise's house over the weekend, and had a very enjoyable time. I love to have all my family together, and Jim & Rachel were keenly missed! We kept looking to see who was missing, and it was Rachel. Philip turned 15 that weekend, on the 20th, so we had a little celebration for him too. ( Jim, our thoughts were with you on your day too!)

Grace & I are getting all geared up for a trip to Pa. in about a week. We are going in with Louise, and will meet up with Rachel and Audrey too. All 4 of us are going out to the Maryland Beach to spend 4 days together!! Audrey is getting married in Sept., and will be living in NC., so the times where Mama & her girls can spend together will be more and more rare. We will also be able to take in Daryl's parent's 50th wedding anniversary celebration that weekend, so we are happy to be able to be there!

Then of course in Sept. we head out to NC to Audrey's wedding. She has the date set for the 19th. It will be a pretty small wedding, held in a national park by the waterfalls where they became engaged.

Daryl's work has picked up quite a bit lately. It has also shifted gears quite a bit! He used to be doing mostly demolition and salvage of buildings. But now the windmill servicing thing has really taken off. He covers a pretty large area of about 3 states, and also has a lot of local clients since the Amish use the windmills alot for water & power. Of course, the storms we've been having supply a steady stream of repairs too!

Some pictures yet of life around our place...

Time sure does fly! February already! And the winter weather just keeps right on full force. We just got the biggest snow of the whole winter today... probably a good foot or more. And the next 2 days just looks like more of the same. Daryl & I went on a little overnight outing this weekend. I have been reading a book on marriage lately, and I am realizing all over again just how sweet our relationship is! We're still honeymooning!

We had a wonderful time with all the children home for a week in Dec. We even attempted the near-impossible: family portraits at Sears!!   Getting 15 people to all do a good pose at the same time is no small task. I admired the photographer. We made a lot of good memories...
